C4D Focus/Experience

I have been a television producer for the past 9years producing programs that are predominantly targeted at the Kenyan youth. Given the high levels of unemployment in Kenya, young people have been setting up projects and income generating initiatives like garbage collection, urban farming (producing vegetables in sack gardens), offering cleaning services and operating car wash centres amongst other activities. As a means of encouragement and spurring others to start up similar projects or join existing ones, I have been producing programs that highlight these initiatives as well as profiling some of the group leaders. Within the programs, I have also often featured leading business people and other popular persons among the youth to just share their stories with the target audience and therefore encourage them to work even harder not only to develop their individual skills, but also better their societies and neighborhoods. 'Code 254' and 'Unfinished' are the two programs that I produce which tackle these issues. From the program feedback, a lot of Kenyan youth have been challenged into action thanks to these television programs.

Role

I work for the Public Service Broadcaster in Kenya, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation as a television producer focusing on educative and life-skills programs for the youth.
