Development communication, which I define as the science of human communication linked to the transitioning of communities from poverty in all its forms to a dynamic, overall growth that fosters equity and the unfolding of individual potential. It is an academic definition whose operative words are poverty, equity and unfolding of human potential.
Role
Although currently based in Hawaii, USA, I identify with the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), which is part of the University of the Philippines System. UPLB is a research-oriented unit which focuses mainly on agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management. I am professor emeritus at the College of Development Communication, UPLB.

I am Asegedew Shemelis from Ethiopia studying Journalism and Communication at Addis Ababa's Graduate School. Currently I am conducting my MA thesis on Participatory Communication for Development. Particularly the study focuses on rural community health.
