C4D Focus/Experience

My skills and experiences are relevant in several ways to the field of communication for development. As a communication specialist, I have designed trans-national strategies for research communication and policy influence related to issues of accountability and social justice. I am deeply committed to participatory forms of creating and communicating knowledge. I have organized policy dialogues and other events and have experience overseeing the design and production of written, audio and video materials. As a foreign correspondent, I have covered the development industry and development issues. I have worked as a journalist in Venezuela, Mexico and Ethiopia under the commission of several news organizations including Voice of America, Bloomberg News, The Christian Science Monitor, The Globe & Mail, National Public Radio and Time Magazine. As a researcher, I am acquainted with both academic and policy debates on the topics of communication and social change and media and development, and I am familiar with a range of methodologies pertinent to the study of communication. My PhD used participatory methods to explore how new forms of communication can strengthen the relationship between media and development in Kenya and Ethiopia.
