C4D Focus/Experience

I have been a journalist for more than 25 years and have worked in the C4D field for the last five years, initially as the Director of a BBC World Service Trust Behaviour Change Communication project in Darfur Sudan, overseeing daily radio broadcasts to Internally Displaced People in the conflict zone. In 2010, I completed a Master's degree in Communication for Development, (Malmo University), specialising in participatory communication.Following on from this, I have worked as a consultant on a UNICEF project in Tanzania, helping marginalised children and young people use radio to give them a voice, to enable them to raise awareness of the issues that drive them to the street and to help empower them and engage with people in the community. I also specialise in media development, training East African journalists on issues such as conflict sensitive journalism, media freedom and governance and media self-regulation. I also provide strategic communication planning services and media development evaluation expertise to NGOs. I am a contributing author of an academic book on youth, media, communication and development, which is to be published in 2012.
