C4D Focus/Experience

I am a Humanitarian Communications expert specialising in Community Engagement and Accountability to deliver better impact in emergencies. This includes previously working for Internews as Humanitarian Director in South Sudan where I designed and rapidly scaled up Boda Boda Talk Talk - an innovative community-owned audio information project in displacement camps. I also had erected a community radio station in a frontline zone to engage with people affected by the South Sudan conflict. Earlier this year I worked for IFRC as a community engagement specialist where I designed the Walkie Talkie Information Service in transit sites. The 20-minute audio programs in Arabic and Farsi were produced in partnership with various agencies and a local radio station on Lesvos. I am passionate about humanising the aid response, and ensuring communities have voices heard and responded to by humanitarian actors. I am an effective team leader managing multiple projects, budgets and staff. I have a unique combination of management skills and original creative flair to deliver impact and social change in highly complex environments. I’m skilled in strategy development for Social Behaviour Change Communications, and designing and managing Communications With Communities (CWC) programs that support UN Clusters, partner agencies and NGOs to have better accountability with people. I am experienced in field based Monitoring & Evaluations at global, regional, country, and local level. As a freelance writer I have investigated, researched, and reported for The BBC, The Guardian and Al Jazeera. I have undertaken a Hostile Environments Awareness Training (HEAT) and completed Emergency First Aid Response course. I am a consultant on the CHASE-OT roster (for DFID), and a member of the C4D Network. I hold a Masters Degree in International Political Economy (Warwick University, UK).
